Getting started
How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?
It may help if your child finds it hard to say words clearly, has fewer words than you'd expect for their age, or has trouble understanding others or sharing their thoughts. We also support neurodivergent children, children with hearing differences, genetic conditions or developmental disabilities, and children with feeding, eating, drinking or swallowing difficulties. If you're unsure, trust your instincts and get in touch. We are here to help.
What ages do you work with?
We work with children and young people from birth to 18 years.
How do I get started?
Simply call or email us, or fill in the form on our Contact page, and we'll book an initial consultation and assessment. You don't need a referral, unless you'd like to use Medicare (see Fees & funding).
What is the onboarding process like?
- Get in touch and we'll send you our intake form.
- You'll receive our Master Terms & Conditions to read and sign electronically.
- We complete your child's assessment.
- Together we build a therapy plan and find session times that suit your family.
What can I expect during a speech assessment?
Your therapist gets to know your child through play and activities, looking at their strengths as well as the areas where they need support, so we have a full picture before planning therapy.
Sessions & therapy
How are therapy plans personalised?
Every child gets their own plan, built around their goals, interests and family. This may include one-on-one sessions, group sessions or a mix of both.
How long is a session?
Sessions usually run for 30 to 60 minutes, depending on your child's age, attention and goals.
How often are sessions?
It depends on your child's needs. Your therapist will talk this through with you and recommend what will work best.
Do you support parents too?
Absolutely! We share practical tips, strategies and resources so you can keep practising at home, because that's where so much of the magic happens.
Do you offer feeding therapy?
Yes. Our feeding-trained speech pathologists support children with feeding, eating, drinking and swallowing, in a gentle, pressure-free way. Visit our Feeding Therapy page to learn more.
Where we work
Where can you see my child?
At our Maroubra and Woonona clinics, at home, in local preschools, day cares and schools, or online via telehealth.
What's available in the Northern Illawarra?
Our Woonona clinic is open! We also offer assessment and therapy in homes, schools, preschools and day cares across the Northern Illawarra.
Can we do sessions online?
Yes. Telehealth is a great option for families anywhere in NSW. All you need is a device with a camera and a cosy spot. Visit our Telehealth page to learn more.
Fees, funding & cancellations
Do you accept NDIS?
Yes, for self-managed and plan-managed participants. We don't currently accept NDIA (agency) managed funding.
Can I use Medicare?
Yes. With a GP referral (such as a Chronic Condition Management plan or M10 referral), you can claim a Medicare rebate for a set number of sessions. We charge the full fee on the day and you claim the rebate directly from Medicare. To claim for your first appointment, please get your GP referral before it.
Can I claim through private health insurance?
If your fund covers speech pathology, we'll give you a receipt so you can claim. Check with your fund about your level of cover.
When do I pay?
Private and NDIS self-managed families pay on the day, at the end of each appointment, and keep a card on file securely for any fees not paid on the day. For plan-managed families, we invoice your plan manager directly.
What if I need to cancel?
Please give us at least 48 hours' notice by emailing cancellations@seasaltspeechpathology.com.
| Notice given | Fee |
|---|---|
| 48 hours or more | No fee |
| 24 to 48 hours | 50% of the session fee |
| Less than 24 hours, or no-show | 100% of the session fee |
Privacy, AI & photos
How do you keep my child's information safe?
Clinical records are stored securely in Halaxy, our clinical records system, which keeps data in Australia. We only share information with your consent, when the law requires it, or to keep a child safe.
Do you use AI?
Yes, ethically and responsibly. Approved AI tools help our clinicians with reports, notes and admin, which frees up more time for therapy. Your clinician checks and approves everything, and AI never makes decisions about your child. Our AI & Media Policy has all the details.
Will you take photos or videos of my child?
Only with your consent. We may take short clips to share with you or your child's care team to support therapy. We'll never post anything on social media without your written and verbal permission for that specific photo or video.
